The Stone Watcher — Gargoyle of the Codex

Wings folded in silence,
eyes carved from night.
It waits, it watches,
it never sleeps.

The Stone Watcher was born not of womb but of cathedral — a carving meant to ward off shadows, but instead, the Codex claimed it. Where once it stood as protection, it became prison. Stone hardened around flesh, wings fossilized into permanence, and its scream was buried alive in mortar.

It perches still, unmoving, yet never dead. Its eyes see what mortals cannot — the sins whispered in darkness, the bargains etched in blood. Those who linger beneath its gaze feel the weight of their soul being tallied, as though every breath is measured against the silence it keeps.

The Codex marks the Gargoyle as more than stone: it is the eternal witness. Where Kaelen howls and Elara weeps, the Watcher does neither — it records. Its silence is not mercy but judgment, for when it finally stirs, it does not descend as guardian but as executioner.

They say if the Watcher ever spreads its wings again, it will not return to stone, for by then the Codex itself will have no more need of walls.
